A small success!

This morning in the car on the way to church, we were listening to Primary songs. I usually can't hear the CD's in the car, especially anything with vocals.  This morning, I distinctly heard "If You're Happy and You Know It."  Here's what I heard (with my implant and my hearing aid both on).

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it, touch your nose.
If you're happy and you know it, blink your eyes.
If you're happy and you know it, touch your ears.

And just now, we checked the lyrics in the song book.  Here's how it actually goes.

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands. (Check!)
If you're happy and you know it, tap your toes. (Close!)
If you're happy and you know it, blink your eyes. (Check!)
If you're happy and you know it, snap your fingers. (Well. There's always room for improvement.)

Just wanted to put that out there.  A small success!

  2. Dad here pretending to be Mom so that we can fool this !#%@#!! computer:

I'm overjoyed that you are starting to hear things, but really, starting this process by trying to hear song lyrics is like learning to play golf by teeing off at Augusta National. I can't ever get song lyrics quite right.
A wailing song from my younger days that still rings mysterious in my mind goes:
"You don't have to say you love me
    Just because you [something],
You don't have to stay for [dinner??]
    I will [something something].
    Believe me...[or maybe Relieve me]"
This may not be as uncommon as you think. Dave Barry wrote hilariously about our tendency to misinterpret song lyrics. I still roll on the floor laughing at: "Ain't no woman like the One-Eyed Gott!"
So, even normal hearing yields some pretty bizarre misunderstandings. Don't give up.
